John Bramblitt

MEET THE ARTIST

John Bramblitt is an American painter from El Paso, Texas. After a series of seizures due to epilepsy and Lyme disease, he lost his sight and eventually turned to painting. Bramblitt taught himself how to paint using raised lines to navigate the canvas and learned how to distinguish between different colors of paint using textures. By using haptic visualization, allowing him to “see” subjects through touch, he is able to paint lifelike portraits of people he has never seen. He is now the first blind muralist in the United States. Additionally, he was awarded three U.S. presidential service awards in 2005, 2006, and 2007 for his creation of free art workshops in order to bring art to people lacking access to art instruction, and he works with museums to curate collections accepting of everyone. His art style uses bright colors and mixes impressionism with pop art. You can find his art and more information at: https://bramblitt.com/.
